“What the caterpillar calls the end of the world; the master calls a butterfly.”

Richard Bach

Metamorphosis as a way of Life.

Dear Beloved Community,

The quote, “What the caterpillar calls the end of the world; the master calls a butterfly,” offers a profound reflection on transformation and perspective. In our spiritual journey, we often face moments that feel like endings—times of loss, uncertainty, or change that seem to unravel our world. Like the caterpillar in its cocoon, we may perceive these moments as final, even frightening. Yet, through the eyes of divine wisdom, what appears as an end is merely the beginning of something beautiful.

This wisdom invites us to trust the process of transformation. Just as the caterpillar surrenders to the cocoon, we are called to surrender to the divine flow, trusting that every ending is a doorway to new life. The butterfly emerges not by resisting but by embracing the mystery of change. In our spiritual community, we see this truth reflected in our shared stories of healing, growth, and renewal—each a testament to the beauty that arises when we let go and let grace work within us.

As we move through this week, let’s hold this image of the butterfly in our hearts. May it remind us to approach our challenges with hope, knowing that what feels like an end is, in the master’s hands, a step toward becoming our truest selves. Let’s encourage one another to trust the transformative power of love and faith, confident that we are all being shaped into something radiant.

What “cocoon” are you experiencing right now, and how might you trust the process of becoming a butterfly?

Spend a few moments in quiet prayer or meditation, visualizing yourself emerging from a cocoon into new life. Offer any fears or endings to the divine, asking for the grace to see the butterfly within.

Breathwork Metamorphosis is a practice of honoring the reality that we are all in constant change….and, at many different levels. We have relationship changes….relationship to people, our bodies, food, nature, work, etc. We have mental changes as we learn to educate and evaluate life and create new beliefs. Our bodies change over our lifetime and that is another surrender as we accept that to witness the breakdown of our body is an honor to have lived life long enough to see it…..and, so many more changes.

Come and breathe this month in Portland and release to make room for another octave of energy to reside in your heart and souls.
